Vascular Surgery
Prof. Dr. Jérôme Cau has been working in the vascular, endovascular and thoracic surgery service in the Poitiers Clinic for the last years. He treats cases of arterial pathology by endovascular (stent angioplasty, balloon dilatation angioplasty, stent-graft angioplasty, EVAR, TEVAR, venous stenting) or laparoscopic and classic vascular methods. He is also an Associate Researcher at the CNR (Le Centre national de la recherche scientifique) in the laparoscopic surgical robot project and the development of new techniques for learning laparoscopic surgical gesture using an expert computerized capture and processing system. Associate researcher at INSERM in the laparoscopic renal graft project and applications of robotic vascular surgery.
Project to create a complex Training Center to educate digestive, vascular (arterial pathology), urologists, gynecologists and orthopedic surgeons and also teaching expert level techniques in laparoscopy and interventional on animal models (pig), cadaver models and simulators using motion capture technology.
He has developed laparoscopic arterial surgery centers training vascular surgeons in renowned teaching hospitals. Until 2013 he headed the Department of Vascular Surgery and Transplantation at Benghazi Medical Center. His techniques in vascular surgery have been presented in numerous congresses and peer-reviewed journals in Europe and the USA. Lately he is leading as medical director the Sainte Marguerite Private Clinic Chain.

Educational programmes
- Creation and development of an international pilot centre for laparoscopic education. We have initiated an educational programme at our teaching hospital for surgeons wishing to practise laparoscopic aortic surgery. The programme includes operating room demonstrations, practical applications, laboratory, practice on anatomical models, one-on-one interaction on the pelvitrainer device with an expert and the creation of your own evaluation models;
- Supervisor for laparoscopic total aortic bypasses in French and European vascular centres (over 100 procedures in European centres);
- Expert in laparoscopic aortic surgery since 2002 in the IRCAD-EITS Laparoscopic Training Centre (Strasbourg, France);
- Creation and development of a new laparoscopic retractor (patented), lumbar arterial occluder (patented) as well as other medical devices;
- Creation of a non-profit International Society dedicated to laparoscopy and other minimally invasive vascular techniques and member of the IELS (International Endovascular and Laparoscopic Society) Board of Directors;
- Creation of a surgical training centre (University of Poitiers, France), and development of a dedicated training programme;

Creation and development of a surgical school, university hospital, Poitiers, France. This surgical institution is a structure whose objective is to provide high performance education in basic, advanced and state-of-the-art surgical techniques; for both residents and experienced surgeons. The objectives of this structure are as follows:
- To make the educational process of surgical practices more efficient and optimal: to reduce learning time.
- To respond to the needs of surgeons who require continuous improvement of their level of practical skills.
- To develop and teach state-of-the-art surgical methods and techniques.
